I’ve never been good with introductions, to sum up in 5 lines, who we are and what we do or want or whatever. In almost every social media profile, in that one line space they leave for bios I copy my favourite quote “I have nothing to declare except my genius” Wilde had it right.
But I suppose I need to tell you something about me. I’m going to use excerpts from my first post. Well, because I like how I said it.
I’m a doctor who has exchanged, figuratively, a scalpel for a chef’s knife. That’s the 140-characters version of it all. If you wish to know more, keep on reading. If this was enough for you, then awesome.
All that has lead me to this point, the whys and “becauses” are a whole intricate web of events and decisions that have taken this 24 year old recipient of a medical degree to pursue something that shares very little with the medical field. Maybe only craftsmanship.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, maybe less, it was all “very clear” for me. I was going to finish my internship on September 2013, apply for a residency in Brazil on October 2013. But I was not happy and much less excited. Not even 1/8th of motivated as my fellow friends who were engaged on study programs and hands on the field.
In simple words I’m passionate about food. Cooking it, eating it, playing with it.
I know I need a plan. I want to go overseas to enroll in a culinary institute. Leading me to work at a place I like to call “where freedom goes to die” a call centre. So its money that I can use to help me get where I want to.
And we come to the purpose of this blog. Self taught cooking. A dangerous thing, everyone would agree. I promise something good is going to come out of this. All dangerous things have an adventure potentiality. I’ve bought some cooking technique textbooks, some knives and other tools, and I’ll practice a little self teaching. By the end of next month I’ll be starting a five month training program in Culinary Arts.
So this is the longer version of my story. Without much to add, I hope you at least find some humour within these posts.
